What is GSTR-2B reconciliation?
GSTR-2B reconciliation is the monthly process of matching the purchase invoices in your books with the input tax credit (ITC) statement that the GST portal generates for you. GSTR-2B is a static statement, generated on the 14th of every month, that lists the invoices your suppliers reported in their GSTR-1 or IFF. hisabkitab compares the two invoice by invoice, so you claim only eligible ITC when you file GSTR-3B.
Why does GSTR-2B reconciliation matter?
Since 1 January 2022, Section 16(2)(aa) of the CGST Act allows input tax credit only when the supplier’s invoice appears in your GSTR-2B. Claiming credit that is not in GSTR-2B can lead to ITC reversal with interest, mismatch notices such as Form DRC-01C, and working capital stuck with the government. Regular reconciliation helps you:
Claim every rupee of eligible input tax credit on time
Avoid excess ITC claims, interest and mismatch notices
Follow up with suppliers who have not filed or have reported wrong details
Keep your purchase register and GSTR-3B in agreement for the annual return and audit
What causes mismatches between GSTR-2B and the purchase register?
Most differences fall into a few predictable groups:
The supplier filed GSTR-1 late, so the invoice moves to a later month’s GSTR-2B
A wrong GSTIN, invoice number or invoice date was entered by you or by the supplier
The taxable value or tax amount differs, often because of rounding or a wrong rate
The supplier reported the invoice as B2C, or did not report it at all
Credit notes and amendments were reported in a different period
You booked the purchase when goods arrived, while the supplier invoiced in another month
How hisabkitab reconciles GSTR-2B with your purchases
Reconciliation takes a few minutes each month:
Record purchases in hisabkitab, import them from Excel, or capture supplier bills with AI OCR.
Fetch GSTR-2B for the month directly from the GST portal, without downloading JSON or Excel files by hand.
hisabkitab matches invoices using the supplier GSTIN, invoice number, invoice date and tax amounts.
Every invoice is placed in one of four groups, so you know exactly what needs attention.
Correct your entries, follow up with suppliers, and file GSTR-3B with the right ITC.

GSTR-2A vs GSTR-2B: which one should you reconcile?
GSTR-2A is a dynamic statement that changes whenever a supplier files or amends a return, while GSTR-2B is a fixed monthly statement that does not change once it is generated. Because ITC eligibility is now tied to GSTR-2B, it is the statement to reconcile before you file GSTR-3B. hisabkitab fetches GSTR-2B, so your reconciliation uses the same data the GST department uses.
Who uses GSTR-2B reconciliation in hisabkitab?
